Do I come over to your journal and have a go at you about your favourite characters? No, I don't. Nor would I ever dream of it - so don't do it to me. I find it to be one of the most offensive things anyone can do in fandom. Particularly when it's done without any constructive reasons as to the dislike of a character.
And as far as River's concerned, I wouldn't even be watching this show without her. Someone said on Twitter a while ago that the group of people in fandom who hate River hate her for the same reasons they love Jack Harkness - and sickening as it is, for the most part it's proven to hold very true. But River Song is the reason I even bothered with this show in the first place, after having been nagged to watch Who for years by some of my friends who are long-time fans. I've been a casual fan of Alex Kingston since my childhood, and that's never going to change. No matter what you or anyone says.
I'm meeting her at my next convention, in ten days' time. I'm taking my lifesize cardboard cut-out of River, which lives in my front room, to ask her to sign it. I'm very excited about this whole thing, including the finale, and yes, a large part of that has to do with the title. And I will be very blunt about this now - much though I like you, if you detest River so much, don't bother commenting on my journal posts about this show and how much I love her, and I won't comment on yours about how much you hate her. Deal?
The reasons I dislike River are not the reasons I liked Captain Jack, because it concerns attributes that he didn't have. I certainly don't have a problem with Alex Kingston.
I apologize for the tone of my previous comment. After I posted it, I immediately wished I'd phrased it differently.
