Where was Angeal when this happened? Out chasing the wind. Avari's first true wuss had been lulled from the forge by his mother's voice calling out to him. He had left shortly after speaking to Zack, and had been gone a good long while. There was virtually no visibility in that fog, and it muted sounds. Other voices called to him, but it was her's he heard the loudest.
Eventually he had come to his senses and gone back to his temporary home. His heart nearly stopped beating as he distinguished the scene.
Every care for the gnarled elf there called for him to lift Avari up, but he knew that not to be the best of ideas. He swallowed, hard, and withdrew his communicator from his pocket.
"Forge," he said, locking it to the Task Force filter, "Avari. We have our fifth victim."
Clicking it off, he sighed, breath misting in the freezing, already fogged air. He didn't want to step too far away, but he looked around and caught sight of the cat. Asking if it were badly hurt seemed a bit stupid.
Oh, of course. I simply have a slight headache, you see. Nothing serious.
As always, the words weaseled into the mind and spoke more as thought than voice. Though this time they were fainter, and there was a bizarre slipping feeling to them, like they might fall out of Angeal's head. His tail twitched, and he didn't bother to open yellow eyes.
"I said that they're coming soon. Zelda should be able to heal you."
It wasn't said to aggravate the cat at all; in fact, it was delievered in the calming tone Angeal had been somewhat known for in his years at SOLIDER. While he was intimidating, he did have a calming presence when he chose to have it. Hopefully the bloody cat would pick up on it.
Armand was coming, and Genesis and Warth. He didn't doubt Karasu would spit bloody murder, and Avari's recent friend, Lucifer, seemed furious. Nabooru would be there. More importantly (at this time, though it stung to say so), Ryuzaki or Matt would turn up. And Zelda, to heal the cat.
He was an unabashed panhandler. Matt wasn't very good at taking care of himself, but he didn't have to be. He had Mello for that. Elena gave him shelter (or technically, Schuldig did). Aaron fed him. But he'd had help in that department over the past few days. The mother hen had found herself another chick.
He'd planned to come over later that very evening, lured by the promise of birthday grub and the chance to see Avari twist Mello's ear if he ate only chocolate for dinner. But then he'd heard. And his steps were a little faster towards the forge.
He probably wouldn't arrive alone. The Task Force had rules about such things and Ned was his on-duty partner. And Matt had rules of his own. He wouldn't leave the building without placing a call to Mello, just as they'd agreed. But he was the first to step into view, his eyes behind their usual lenses going from Angeal to her body. His first words probably wouldn't find debate with anyone in World's End -- except the killer, of course.

"They'll be coming soon," he promised it.
