The sun was setting, casting shadows over the landscape and bathing the horizon in red. The moon had yet to appear in the sky, but Riku was keeping an eye on the castle, knowing full well that if it were to rise, it would come from there. He knew the feeling was just an assumption, drawn from his inherent dislike of anything Organization related, but over the past year the teen had learned to trust his instincts.
He paused for a moment, raising a hand to his shoulder and rolling it, fingers digging into the muscle slightly as he worked out some kinks, brow furrowing and jaw clenching as his side ached at the motion, a dull memory of what he had just been through. Xemnas. Riku found his lips pulling down in a frown, eyes instinctively darting around the landscape, as if thinking the Nobody's name would be enough to make him appear. Honestly, in this place, Riku wouldn't really be surprised if he did. He hadn't been here for long - a few hours, tops - yet he was already learning that it was better to expect anything and everything. The very fabric of reality seemed to hold no meaning in this place - well, if the voices had actually been real.
Zexion, Lexaeus, Vexen, Roxas, Naminé, the Replica- they were dead, Riku had been there for almost all of their deaths. And even if... even if Roxas and Naminé had continued to exist inside of Sora and Kairi, there was no way they could exist on their own, was there? And yet, Riku had heard their voices, all of their voices. He'd carried on conversations with them, listened to some of them interact with each other.
There was no way that was possible. Well, no way he knew of.
Which brought his musings to something he'd heard from two separate people. Talks of Gods. It was possible they could exist here - he mused as he ducked under a tree branch, casting a wary glance towards the castle again, correcting his path as he realized he'd inadvertently started to veer towards the large structure again - seeing as he had visited various worlds where religious figures existed, even if there was no physical evidence of them in other worlds. Santa, Zeus, Hades. It was possible that these 'Gods' could mess with the reality of this world in such a way that they could bring him here as he was crossing through dimensions, or even pull others as well. After all, he'd experienced that sort of power before. But still, it was strange... and-
Riku let out a hiss of pain as a branch scratched against his bare arm, leaving an angry, red scratch. He rubbed it absently, glaring at the branch as he stepped backwards slightly, finally allowing his legs to collapse as he fell back against a tree, closing his eyes with a weary sigh. He'd taken to doing that lately, ever since he started working with DiZ. He would think too much, picking situations apart and thinking over each little piece of information until his head hurt and his patience snapped. And as good a tool as it had been during the entire Roxas situation, doing so now would only result in confusion and guilt. Because as soon as he ran out of information about this world to mull over, he would turn to himself, looking back on the past year and even the few weeks before that, picking apart all of his actions and weighing the consequences of them... like he'd been doing ever since that day on the islands.
He let out another sigh, glancing up at the darkening sky again, mind going blissfully blank as he took in the sounds of stirring wildlife and the sight of the changing sky. The moon was beginning to rise from behind the castle, and Riku noticed that it was vaguely heart shaped, a shiver running through him as he tore his eyes from it. Something in the air seemed to change, and Riku pushed himself up again, dusting off his pants idly as his eyes darted around, searching for something, anything, perhaps a sign of movement that he'd noticed but didn't fully process earlier, ears straining for a sound he hadn't quite recognized, something to explain the sudden paranoia and adrenaline pumping through his system. He wasn't quite ready to summon his keyblade, although he was mentally berating himself for not thinking to see if he even could in this place, so instead he tried his voice, clearing his throat slightly in preparation.
"Hello?"
