Part One- Chin, Kono; learning to ride a bike cancer22May 26 2012, 05:47:04 UTC
17 year old Chin stared down at his seven year old cousin Kono who was standing next to her new pink and green ten speed bike and begging him to teach her how to ride.
"Please cousin. You're the only one who teach me."
"Kono I can't," replied Chin, shaking his head as he bent down on one knee and pushed the crooked helmet on her head upright. "I have somewhere I need to be and besides, I'm pretty sure I'm not the only one who can teach you to ride a bike.
"But you are."
"What about Uncle?" he asked. He promised to teach you didn't he."
"Yes," pouted Kono, twirling one of her pigtails with her fingers. "But he never has any time and I really want to learn," she finished loudly, stomping her foot. "Plus it sucks I'm the only one in my class who doesn't know how to ride a bike without training wheels."
"I wish I could help you Kono but I have to meet my friends at the mall in an hour. I can't be late," he replied sadly.
"Pretty please." She continued pouting and twirling her hair as she stared up at her cousin with big sad eyes. "You're the only one I can count one to help me."
Chin let out a sigh. Out of all the cousins in his family for some reason Kono was the only one he could never say no too. His family liked to say that it was because he was the first out of all of them to hold her after she was born. Maybe somehow in the few precious moments that he held her a bond was born, one of protectiveness and fierce love. He didn't know what exactly it was but as he continued staring into the sad eyes of his cousin he knew he couldn't say no.
"Alright," he said, letting out another sigh as he gave her a soft pat on the head. "I'll teach you how to ride."
Squealing happily, Kono jumped into Chin's arms and gave him a kiss on the cheek. "Thank you so much Chin. You're the best."
Chin laughed and watched as Kono jumped on the seat and steadied herself on the bike. He knew it could take a while before she grasped how to ride the new bike properly but he was prepared to take all the time it took. He was the best after all.
