Things We'd Like to Start Doing to be Greener & Save More $$
(Much shorter, and thus not behind a cut)
- Grow a bigger garden
- Have chickens for their eggs and consumption of table scraps
- Collect rainwater from our shed, and maybe the back of the house, to use to water our gardens.
- Replace the furnace and/or water heater. Preferably before they die, so we can shop for a great deal. Solar, if we could possibly afford it.
- Buy less stuff, no matter the source or subject. Purge more stuff, for money if possible.
- Install faucet aerators and low-flow shower heads.
- Put a 2-liter or half-gallon bottle full of water in each toilet to reduce water usage.
- Buy a new freezer, washer & dryer that are more efficient.
- Insulate our ductwork and pipes.
- Reuse more of everything.
- Buy local food more and more.
- Remember to bring plastic bags to the farmer's market, not just canvas ones. Maybe even do the same for buying produce in the regular grocery store.
- Check with our investment guy to be sure we're being as smart as possible with our long-term and retirement investments.
- When we have a kid: use cloth diapers. Have my mom (and/or me) make them. Also have her make a sling, a boppy, and anything else remotely practical. Make baby food.
