"The Quantum of Solace": dour movie turns Bond into a clothes dryer

How could the James Bond franchise go from one of its best films ever (Casino Royale) to one of its worst?

Horribly disappointing. I almost fell asleep watching the latest Bond film, The Quantum of Solace. Horrible director, Marc Forster. Horrible, incoherent, ADD film editing that lasts less than a few seconds on each shot. I couldn't enjoy a single action sequence, because everything was a blur and I lost interest.

I really like Daniel Craig as an actor, and I loved Casino Royale. I love all good action movies, period.

But this lousy script, director, and film editor completely undercut Daniel Craig. They didn't allow him to smile or show any humor a single time in this film. He had an emotionless, cold scowl throughout that made you think: "Who cares about this machine?" Even Arnold Schwarzenegger's Terminator showed more humor than Bond. I had no emotional connection to his character and stopped caring what happened to him, after about half an hour.

The villain was boring as hell. Not menacing. Had no idea what his grand plot was. Didn't care. The women were beautiful but much too businesslike. You could not savor them. The movie felt like a dull business meeting, in which you have to keep pushing onto the next thing.

I couldn't even finish watching this movie. It felt like watching clothes tumble in a clothes dryer. The Quantum of Solace was as bad as the dour, humorless effort of Timothy Dalton in The Living Daylights.

Please bring back the romance, the humor, and the women of From Russia with Love. It's still my favorite Bond film, besides Casino Royale. Please please bring back Casino Royale director Martin Campbell!

This review perfectly expresses what I think:

Marc Forster Has a License to Confuse and Bore in Quantum of Solace (Village Voice).

Much better than Bond and Mission Impossible? Watch "The Unit" on CBS. It's my new favorite show. I've been happily devouring all of its Season 1 episodes, after getting hooked on its current Season 4. I'll post more on "The Unit" later.
