New personal record: ran 6 miles NONSTOP, in 60:20 min!!!

[Did 20 pull-ups. My left abs still hurt.]

Yay!!!

Almost one month after running 6 miles for the first time in my life, today I finally accomplished my goal of running 6 miles NONSTOP! A new personal record! At last, I can fully do the running part of an Olympic triathlon (10 km = 6.2 miles).

A month ago, I had to rest twice (2 min, then 5 min) and it took 60:30 min to run 6 miles.

This morning, I woke at 7 am and ran 60:20 min (10:03 min/mile), NONSTOP, at the Crystal Springs Reservoir (Sawyer Camp Trail). 3 miles out and 3 miles back. They have trail markers every 1/2 mile.

After mile 4, both my knees and my left ankle began to hurt. I slowed down and hobbled a bit, but I refused to stop. I definitely need to go to a good running store to get new running shoes fitted. My sneakers are several years old and probably wrong for me.

Good news: I'm not limited by my heart. I never got out of breath and took one breath every 3-5 steps. What limits my performance are my knees and ankles.

Pulse 2 min after my run: 140 bpm.
3 min after: 112 bpm.
5 min after: 104 bpm.
35 min after: 92 bpm.

I met a fellow runner with long white hair. He just ran 4 miles. He said he used to run 30 miles/week, but it hurt his knees and "I have no cartilage left. My doctor would kill me if he knew I was out here this morning." I recommended he look at the ChiRunning technique. I own the book but haven't yet tried to implement it.
