A new personal record. Thursday night, I swam a total of 1.1 km (1100 m or 0.68 miles) for the first time in a practice!!! Rested after every 100 m, but I tried to swim the 100 m segments continuously this time. Swam 11 times back and forth (22 50 m laps). Took about 2 minutes for each 100 m ( Read more... )

well, i don't know much about the new technique, to be honest. when i taught kids, the first thing i tried to teach was learning to not be afraid of the water, that water in the nose was normal and how to make sure it doesn't happen. lots of underwater and jumping into water/treading water games.

the main thing that poor swimmers do is struggle through the water instead of letting it aid you. learning to glide through the water helps with that. i usually do lots of drills when i swim, that way when i get to actually swimming i'm fully engaged through my core and i'm relaxed, allowing my body to flow through the water.

i sure hope this helps a bit!

I am not struggling through the water at all. I am trying to following the TI form as much as possible. I am relaxed. But my stroke efficiency sucks.

I can cross 25 yards in 15-20 strokes. But 50 yards takes me 70 strokes! I don't get it.

honestly, that's pretty common: the more tired we get, the more we tend to struggle thru the water instead of slicing through it. it's tough to get, i struggle with this also! focusing on a cadence and not allowing your stroke to get ahead of it can help... my problem with this is my breathing ratio goes up, so I want to increase my strokes/minute, thus lowering the amount of glide time. at least that's my coach's explination
