Anniversary

It was 15 years ago today that the 1994 baseball strike began. At the time of the strike, the Expos were 74-40 with a six-game lead over the Atlanta Braves in the NL East. Ken Hill, Pedro Martinez, and Jeff Fassero were the top three starters, while Mel Rojas and John Wetteland anchored the bullpen. The infield was Cliff Floyd, Mike Lansing, Wil Cordero, and Sean Berry. The outfield was Marquis Grissom, Moises Alou, and Larry Walker. Darrin Fletcher was the backstop.

I was on pins and needles through the rest of August and September, hoping that they would finally see eye-to-eye and get the season restarted, until Selig finally canceled the World Series. Claude Brochu gave up on the team, trading away Hill, Grissom, and Wetteland and letting Walker leave via free agency. In turn, Montreal gave up on both baseball and the Expos, and thus the end of the franchise began to play out.

If I drank, I would be bordering on alcohol poisoning tonight and attacking any and everyone wearing anything branded with the Nationals logo.
