A glass of organic merlot

Aug 24, 2005 01:00

Matt won a bottle of this California merlot that's made with organically grown grapes. First off, I really don't like merlot. Yet, it's wine. It has alcohol in it. So I guess at least a small part of me sorta likes it after all. And so I'm drinking it, but still wishing it was something better.

Caitlin's been gone for a few days now. It feels like weeks already. I don't really like it. Yet, she's my girl. Due to her absence, she's constantly running through my thoughts. So I guess at least a small part of me sorta likes it after all. And so I'm doing my best to make the most of it, but still wishing she was closer.

I booked her a flight for Labor Day weekend to come visit. My friend, Robin, is getting married that Saturday. It took me too long to put two and two together and realize her wedding was on the vacation weekend. Caitlin said she realized it right away and was hoping I would ask her to come visit and be my date for the wedding. She said she wasn't going to mention it if I didn't first. Good thing I figured it out before it was too late. Still, I wonder if she would have said anything had I not.

Someone at work tonight said, "She's your date for a wedding? That's a big step, huh?"

The question struck me. Is it a big step? Or is the answer to that question simply relative to the relationship?

Then I remembered Caitlin's comment. "We're going to the wedding and the reception? I kinda just wanted to go to reception, get drunk, and dance on tables." Winner: Relativity. And oh, a close second: Me, for having a girlfriend who says that.

The last gulp of merlot has washed away. My favorite or not, I can only hope that it keeps on coming.
