Personally I think Inara's a waterbender. Water is . . . smooth, fluid. Which makes sense, because it's, y'know, a fluid. And Inara is very smooth. In movement. What did you think I meant?
Editing for more clarity, because I'm really not explaining this well. MY WORDS, WHERE IS THEY. She just seems very water-like, I dunno! We're the same person; you figure out what I mean. More reasoning; she's basically got the opposite personality from Jayne and Mal. Fire, water, you know. And she's obviously not a very powerful bender, because otherwise the Alliance would probably want her to fight for them or something, but just enough to move a glass's worth of water across the room, or something. Like Katara at the beginning of A:TLA except with more skill.

Reavers are benders whose spiritual energy is turned inwards instead of outwards, like it should be, and has started eating them from the inside out. That, or the stuff they were given on Miranda amplified their spiritual energy to dangerous levels, like an uncontrolled Avatar state, instead of lowering it to calm them down like it was supposed to. Do I get a cookie now?
