Monster! Monster! Ew, look at that monster!
Robin clutched her book close to her chest. She knew why this was happening to her, but it still stung. Without a shred of emotion, and a wave of her finger, she shut the taunting voices of the neighborhood boys. A hand grew out of their heads and gave them all a good clonk. Not too hard, but hard enough to send them crying home. They were probably faking it so they could claim how she had 'attacked' them, but she didn't care.
She knew that they would run off and tattle on their moms, and she just didn't feel like dealing with it that day. Her grip on the book tightened as she ran away into the woods, just far enough so that she could still see the village and wouldn't get lost.
"Mom..."
In her memory, she could barely make out her mother's face. A flash of white hair and beautiful blue eyes flickered in her mind [visible to those watching]. Robin hiccuped and wiped away her tears. Behind her, she could hear the yelling and the jeering of the children and their mothers, calling out for her to show herself and apologize.
"But they deserved it."
She didn't want to go home. Her aunt was mean to her, and treated her like a pest. She felt another tear roll down her face, but quickly wiped them away again. She had to be strong, and not show any weakness to the people that hated her. Instead, she thought of the good professor Clover, who had lent her the book that she held in her hands.
