Question about Guinan
Some one asked me about what race Guinan was, here is my answer.
As for what race Guinan is - I am not sure, I know that she is about 900 years old or so. I know that she first met Picard when he went back in time to 1890's Earth the episode where they found Data's head and a pocket watch in a cave. That is why later on she applied for the position on Enterprise to meet Picard again.
Whether she and her species were born on Earth or were just visiting is never talked about. They are slightly empathic/sensitive but nowhere near the level of a Betazed. She mentions at one point that her race watches. Personally I think that her species is very closely related to humans genetically, maybe a variation.
If you are willing to except various crossovers then you could say that:
1 Xena/Hercules - Guinan and her species are demigods that just kept intermarrying each other and just ended up as being near-immortals but with no special powers.
2. Doom - Her species were the ones that fled from Oldavi originally and by intermarrying with humans hid amoung them.
3. Highlander - The immortals realized that there really was no point to the game and began to live in peace a la Duncan
If you are not willing then maybe:
1 - Her species is a variation of the Prophets that became corporeal
2 - Her species is a branch of the Q. The Q said that they were mortal once and over time figured out the answer to some equation (the answer is 42!) and because they had the answer they got all sorts of power, so they went back in time and made so they always had the answer thus getting all the power. So maybe there was a branch that didn't want all those extra powers and remained extremely long lived and watching.
I personally think that she is a bit of various things. I like the idea of her being the race that fled from Oldavi, but subscribe to the possibility that she is a variation of the prophets and the Q. Imagine that the Prophets are P, then you have the Q, so Guinan could be somewhere along the alphabet spectrum.
