11 Enid Blyton, children’s author was born today in 1897. Have you ever read any of her books?
I have read lots of her books during my childhood - Secret Seven and Famous Five, The [insert noun here] of Adventure, and all the Malory Towers and St Clare's books.
As a result of the former, I tried to start my own group, The Six Swallows; I even made badges, but I only ever had two other members!
As a result of the latter, I always wanted to go to boarding school.
Enid cut both parents out of her life, and while married, had lesbian affairs (there are some girl crushes in the school stories, if I remember rightly) and played tennis naked.
She also encouraged children who read her books/joined her fan clubs to do charitable works for animals, and disadvantaged children.
I got rid of most of my children's books in a purge when I was about 9 years old. I think I kept the horsey ones though.
