The Well of Loneliness by Radclyffe Hall

I have got about 1/5 of the way through this book, and I am afraid I'm finding it rather hard to sympathise much with the transgender/lesbian protagonist Stephen.

Such a hard time she has - not getting on with other kids because she's awkward an unfeminine, and occasionally being guilt-tripped into wearing dresses by her mother. Boo hoo.

She lives in a mansion in the country, has an indulgent father who understands and protects her, and TWO HORSES.

TWO.

I could happily fall into that well.

gender, animal passions, books, gay rights
