I've been meaning to update for a while, but like the rest of my writing - it keeps getting stuck on the draft stage.   So, here goes.

This led to a couple of intensive weeks of (re-)writing. But then, once I got all the new scenes plotted out, my drive petered out again.Aww, that's a shame. I look forward to reading it, if you ever get back to it ( ... )

That WIP is my everlasting one - I've been working on it for a couple of years (every now and then...)

As for a new social network - I think it's a matter of added value. If there's added value (and that's a big if) , it will attract people. That includes privacy and porn issues, but that's not added value at all nowadays. Tumblr is full of porn, and I don't see there's any problem.

As far as I can see, Imzy is not doing that well. I don't think they offer enough to distinguish themselves from Facebook, and they don't offer me as a fan enough that it could replace LJ/DW. Otherwise I would have moved there. They also lack Tumblr's advantages.

I've been thinking about this... I keep on saying that Imzy is a new Facebook, but they really aren't, it's just their interface that looks very Facebook like (to me). They're aiming for the same thing I am, a community-oriented social network. They're going about it differently, though.

I'm not on Facebook, so I have no opinion on that. I just feel like Imzy did a lot of thinking and seemed to have a lot of resources behind them, and it still didn't pan out, particularly.

Anyway, personally what I want is old-LJ-style fandom, and that's unlikely to occur, but if it does I think it'll be on Dreamwidth, at least for now. I feel like what's stopping it is more a lack of fannish cohesion (no big fandom shows means no active fandom-specific comms) than the platform itself. Which makes me think that the real success of tumblr is it's so huge that you're basically crowd-sourcing your fandom from everyone using those tags, rather than relying on people caring about something enough to join a specific comm...

Imzy did a lot of thinking, but more in the direction of how to make people nicer on the internet. In that sense, they are doing extremely well ( ... )
