an impromptu list of things i like about my current day-to-day:
* that i can walk elvis to the cafe and when i mention i might be moving to richmond, the guy behind the counter knows that my boyfriend and i have been talking about places we might like to live together.
* that when i go to drop off some papers at my friend's house, we stop to have a conversation about trampolines and minor league baseball and i am inevitably invited to a birthday party.
* that when i sit on the front porch with elvis, the puppy across the street takes notice and even though she doesn't have a leash, she stays in our yard so they can wrestle together.
* that my kitchen is full of dirty dishes and sticky counters because there are three young people living in the house that congregate around the stove and the fridge, discussing ulterior motives in the Duke lacrosse scandal while cooking impromptu dinners.
* that there is a spice rack on my kitchen wall and a lampshade hanging from the living room ceiling.
* that my day off from work feels almost exactly like the rare days when i got to stay home sick from school for reasons that had nothing to do with being unhealthy.
* that even the most frustrating, tiresome parts of life always give way to laughter, as when someone i love holds me close, runs his feet along my legs and whispers in my ear, "I'm giving you my foot disease."
