ive told some of you this already, but i figured id post it here and ask for your opinions.
as of late, i have been pondering whether or not i should go to completely digital media (mp3s on mp3 players, not burned cds) or stick it out and continue to purchase cds.
here are the pros of sticking with cds:
- i will be supporting the musicians i love
- ill get the pretty little inner cover thing
- the cds last a long time, and can be leant to friends
- self satisfaction for supporting music
- sound quality is guarenteed
now, for the cons:
- expensive
- can break, and be lost
- most of the money goes to label and distributor
- due to limited funds, keeping up on good music is impossible
- hard to move (i move at least twice a year)
- general pain in the ass
- made on a petroleum by-product, a limited resource
the biggest reason im thinking about making this change, however, is simply economical. at any given time, there are at least 100 albums i wish to hear that i dont have, which is about $1500 to purchase. if i were to buy a 40 gig ipod or similar device for 400 dollars, i could fit 200 cds on that, allowing me listen to all the music i want to hear, all at the touch of a finger. also through soulseek and friends record collections, all cds i could possibly want are at my fingertips.
however, im still undecided, especially after all the shit i have given to cd burning types. any advice or opinions would be greatly appreciated.
