hilarious.
absolutely hilarious.

i don't think i've ever seen you have any sort of ego at all, and you made the only good point in the whole conversation.

"Me (2:53:47 PM): who says you have to challenge yourself all the time to write good music?"

absolutely dead on.
now, i consider myself a pretty good guitarist. I know that there are plenty out there, yourself included, who could shit all over me. (though, mostly because i got tendinitis and can't keep a good practice regimine anymore.)
but the point is, if you've ever heard any of our songs, alot of guitarists could do what I do in their sleep. but how many do? id rather play a ton of shows and rock out all over new england than sit in my basement and woodshed. i have no interest in being the next vai. i just enjoy playing fun catchy songs, stuff that i can enjoy and others can too.
if i sit down and practice for afew days, can i rip? sure. listen to the end of the song "3 days and another cliche" on our myspace. the outro solo may be the only thing ive ever done in my band that remotely challenges me. but thats not what its about.
i think its amazing that whoever this is you were talking to can say stuff like "you arn't playing anything difficult.". maybe you arn't playing any ripped of metallica riffs or anything like most metalheads seem to think is the meaning of life.
when we played the ocean mist with you guys, i just sat at the side of the stage and watched you play. and while i can't say im a huge fan of the SONGS themselves, what i did see was some of the sickest playing ive ever seen at a local show. your picking precision was rediculas on the rythem parts. and most importantly, you and brendon were as tight as anyone ive seen around here. there was no sloppiness whatsoever, and i never saw you miss a note.
and yes, i was watching.
i never see you with any ego at all, but even if you did, you'd have reason to.
youre a monster, no doubt about it.
i look forward to watching you play friday.
dont listen to douchebags like that.
take care
Spencer

ps.
if i could give you one recommendation, it would only be this:
turn down the gain alittle, and work on the eq some. it pretty much wrecks my ears every time i hear you guys, and the guitar doesnt come through as powerfully as it could.
peace!
