Brief history of your character (100-200 word minimum):
Castiel is an angel of the lord. He doesn’t wear white robes or sport a halo. Actually, due to the fact that he has to move about the human plane in a vessel, he looks pretty normal. Angels can’t be perceived in their true form by humans, at least without causing them to go blind. They each have their own vessel. Castiel’s current one is Jimmy Novak, a devout man, who initially granted Castiel access to using him as a vessel. After Castiel was dragged back to heaven, Jimmy was back in his body without the angel. He regretted what happened, the fact that he gave up his life and family for an angel, but didn’t get anything out of it. He allowed the angel to take over, and he was left in limbo. Jimmy makes his way back to his family, only to find demons laying in wait for him. Despite the fact that Jimmy doesn’t remember anything from his time as a vessel, the demons thought that the man might have some Intel from the angels. Castiel shows up, using Jimmy’s daughter as his vessel. The angel and the Winchesters end up saving the Novaks. Jimmy begs Castiel to use him as his vessel, not his daughter. With everything he went through, with the demons and angels... He didn’t want his daughter to go through what he did. Even though, by allowing Castiel back into his body, he would go away forever.
After Dean was sent to hell, the hell hounds tore him apart at the end of season three, angels are introduced in Supernatural. Dean wakes up in his grave, without any knowledge of how or why he was brought back out of hell. After trying to communicate with the hunter for some time, Castiel finally showed up in his vessel before Dean and Bobby. The angel openly confesses to being the one who ‘gripped you tight and raised you from perdition’ to Dean. The angel told Dean that the reason why he was brought back was because God had plans for him. Lilith, a demon that the Winchesters had encountered before was working on breaking the seals (she needs to break 66 of them to free Lucifer from hell), and, Dean must stop her. While the Winchesters are working on stopping the impending apocalypse, Castiel aids Sam and Dean in fighting off demons and angels alike.
At one point, Cas shows up with Uriel, another angel, with the charge of killing Anna Milton. Demons and Angels are after this girl, since she had the ability to hear the communication between the angels. Anna ends up being a fallen angel, who needs to be reunited with her essence to have her angel abilities back. Castiel has a history with Anna and seems reluctant to kill her. She is one of his sisters, a fellow (former) angel, any further history isn’t explained in the show. It’s most likely that they were near the same rank in heaven and spent a good deal of time in each others company. He originally feels that he should follow through with his orders, he is an unwavering servant of the lord. And, Anna had rebelled. She fell. Something that angels are not supposed to do. Cas stands up for Sam and Dean, showing some sort of favoritism for humans; at the very least, favoritism for the hunters. Until meeting Anna and his several encounters with the Winchesters, Castiel never question where his orders came from. But, due to some questionable things that the angels are doing, and Anna’s suggestion that the orders aren’t actually coming from God himself, but, rather, other angels with different agendas. This is a turning point for Castiel; the seeds of doubt had been placed.
Uriel ends up informing Castiel that some of the angels are working together to free Lucifer from hell, having grown wary of not hearing from their absent father. They’re the ones who helped jump start the apocalypse. The angel asks Cas to join him. Naturally, Castiel refuses as his loyalty isn’t to his brothers and sisters, but, to his father. Uriel engages in a fight, and nearly gets the drop on Castiel, but is defeated by Anna. Castiel is grateful for her help, knowing that if not for her, he would have been killed. Castiel isn't sure why she helped him out where she has no loyalty to him, or, necessarily, to God.
Sam is Lucifer’s vessel. He is not the one who is supposed to stop the apocalypse from happening, Dean is. Sam has been tainted with demon blood from a very young age. He was tainted. And, now... Sam drinks demon blood. Allowing him to expel demons from the bodies they possess. It is unsettling. It gives the angel reason not to trust the youngest Winchester. There are other reasons as to why Castiel doesn’t trust Sam, most likely it is that he is Lucifer’s vessel, and how he had been a target of the demons since he was just a few months old. He has been tainted with demon blood, and, that doesn’t sit well with the angel.
Castiel ends up full on rebelling from Heaven, openly fighting against the Angels and working to save mankind; something that puts him in a sticky situation with the other angels.
When Sam is closing in on Lilith, who is heading to break the last seal, Zachariah brings Dean to a waiting room as a sort of safe house until his time comes to step up and stop the apocalypse. After being trapped there for a while, Dean learns that all of the angels are letting the apocalypse come to pass, and Dean’s part is in the apocalypse as a vessel for Michael. Dean begs Cas to get him out so they can stop the final seal from being broken. At first, Castiel refuses, but he later returns ready to aid Dean in the fight. He takes Dean to Chuck, the prophet, in order to find out where Sam was. Since their showing up there didn’t follow Chuck’s Gospel, causing Raphael, an archangel to turn up. Castiel uses his angel abilities to send Dean to his brother without him. As he stays behind, he ends up being killed by Raphael. In doing this, Castiel sacrifices himself for the Winchesters. He believes that it's God's will for them to stop everything from happening, The angel is perfectly fine with giving up his life for them and he trusts that they can stop Lilith from breaking the last seal and setting Lucifer free.
God ends up reviving Castiel, bringing him back into existence. Castiel ends up killing two of his fellow angels to save the Winchesters. As he’s given no reason as to why he was brought back, Castiel was determined to find God, using a borrowed amulet from Dean (it burns hot in God’s presence). He feels that he has to find God, that he's the only one who can set this all back to normal. To stop the uprising in Heaven. To stop the apocalypse... God has to set all of it right. He just has to. Castiel has unwavering faith in his Father.
The Winchesters are moved away from Lucifer, presumably by God, which makes them believe that the angel’s actions aren’t condoned and they are the ones who will be able to stop this. The Winchesters and Castiel retrieve the Colt, thinking that it’s the only way to successfully kill Lucifer. When they get to town, there are literally hundreds of Reapers already there, so Castiel goes off to try and discover why they were there. Lucifer traps Castiel in holy fire (if angles try and cross it they will die), and tries to get Castiel to join his side, telling him that they are both targets of Heaven and should work together. The Thursday Angel refuses to join him, and ends up freeing himself after sometime; though, he discovers that he can’t kill demons by touch anymore. This is the moment where Castiel realizes that he is losing his grace; meaning, he is losing the part of him that makes him an angel. Think of the term ‘falling from grace’, this means a great deal more to an angel. They may have some abilities, like Anna was able to hear the angels talk to each other, but, she had no other discernible powers.
Note: Thursday Angel, that is just the sort of angel that Castiel is. His rank. I saw it in a book of angels, they listed Castiel as a Thursday angel.
Brief synopsis of your character's personality (100 word minimum):
Loyal. Incredibly loyal to a T. First and foremost, his loyalty is to God, his father. But, Castiel also has a loyalty to Dean and Sam that has cost him his grace and caused him to kill some of his brothers and sisters; something that doesn't sit well with him. Killing those who were supposed to be as loyal to their father. It wasn't how it was supposed to be. The angels punished those who rebelled, that was it. But, knowing that most of the angels had been favoring the start of the apocalypse due to their own agendas, and not due to God's orders... Cas can't work with them like that.
Castiel is used to having a goal, something to aim for. He is used to receiving orders from a higher plane. Being a devout servant of the lord, Castiel is unafraid of acting out what he thinks he needs to do. Every action Cas takes is in order to reach a certain goal. He doesn't do anything rash unless it is to further him towards his goal. The angel has even killed innocent people because it was asked of him, or, because it was deemed necessary.
He is very innocent in many ways. He doesn't comprehend a lot of basic human interaction. He has no concept of personal space. Cas is very smart, but, its of a different field. He understands things on a very different level, inferring from peoples thoughts. He understands quite a lot, and, at the same time, very little. A lot of the greater picture things he understands, but, when it comes to minute details, he’s perpetually confused.
Without his angel mojo, things are going to be very difficult for him. Castiel won't be able to infer anything (from people's thoughts), which he is very much used to. The transition will be grating as he is used to this and knows nothing else.
There's a habit that Castiel has, when he's talking to someone, doesn't matter who it is, he tends to be extremely blunt and direct. He doesn't dance around a topic, shy around because of people's feelings; he doesn't sugar coat things. It's something he doesn't see a point to. The angel tends to tell it how it is.
Looking on Castiel's true form will burn out a human's eyes, as Pamela Barnes found when she tried to summon him in a seance. Castiel states his angelic shape is as big as the Chrysler Building in New York. Castiel's voice has the same adverse effect on humans, prior to having his vessel, he uses EVP to communicate with people. In a flashback, we see that he uses various electronics to communicate with Jimmy Novak. He tries it with Dean, unsuccessfully, after the hunter is brought back from hell.
Castiel is able to teleport himself, and in some cases groups of people, through time and space. He can cover great distances in a matter of second. He also can move objects with a gesture, and even ignite them. Castiel is also proficient with an Angel Sword, generally out-matching his angelic opponents while using it.
Apart from those who are acting out to jump-start the apocalypse working on their own accord, Castiel is one of the few angels that exhibits free will. He works on his own, doing what he thinks is right instead of just following orders; this makes Castiel different. He has become more confident in his decisions since he met the Winchesters, making him more able to do what he thinks is the right thing to do. In a way, the Winchesters changed him, made him more human. Their humanity is what has allowed him to rebel against heaven and fight all of his brothers and sisters.
