I was at Ma'oz (a falafel place on King George Street) with Gedaliah and Chaya about an hour and a half ago when a police car went by with its siren on. Okay, that happens. A minute or two later, an ambulance, also with sirens, drove by. I commented on the fact that the ambulance seemed to appear out of nowhere, but aside from that, it didn't seem strange.
Then another ambulance. Then another police car, a
Hatzolah motorcycle, another ambulance, and suddenly a whole bunch of army Jeeps. At this point everyone was pretty sure it was a terrorist attack, the questions being where and how bad.
Here's the story. A tractor driver (a tractor driver or some guy who just got in to a tractor? I'm not sure) started running into people, crushing cars and flipping over buses in between the Central Bus Station and the Machane Yehuda Shuk (the main open-air market in Jerusalem).
This picture was the first one I saw. The 13 is one of the buses that goes to my neighborhood--I know a lot of people who take that bus. Not to mention that it's one of those buses always filled with senior citizens (one of the stops on its route is, I think, a senior's home). That bus was flipped onto its side with 35 people in it.
Thank God, we're all right. And so far, everyone I know seems to be.
