Feminism vs. Gender Egalitarianism

Nov 08, 2006 21:02

So I haven't posted in a while, but I kept meaning to. First I was going to post about feminism and gender egalitarianism and whether or not they're mutually inclusive, but I sort of lazed out on that one. Then I was going to post about white toilet paper, but I figured there are only, like, two people on my friends list who can relate to that topic. I suppose I could post about school, but who wants to hear about that?

School is actually going really well. I'm talking to my classmates much more than I did last year (and lots of them know my name and I know theirs!), following the material, and handing in homework assignments (I know, right?).

So, in conclusion, what do you guys think about feminism vs. gender egalitarianism? Can you have one without the other? It seems to me that you can be feminist without being egalitarian, but to someone with a different definition of feminism, that might be an oxymoron. What about egalitarianism without feminism? I can't imagine such a concept, but I might just not be creative enough. Input please!

Here is what Merriam-Webster has to say about both words, by the way: feminism vs. egalitarianism.
