Flying a shuttle isn't scary.

Shuttles in general are scary to me, sir. I was in one when it crashed. [shifts awkwardly at the memory]

But I figured I should have a basic understanding of how to fly one, in case of an emergency.

*sits in the pilot's seat* It's a good idea.

First step to success, program the flight plan. *shows her how*

[takes a seat next to him] Thank you, sir.

[twists her fingers together nervously as she watches] Ok, that doesn't seem too hard.

Yeoman...relax. All we're going to do is fly around Earth a few times. Nothing is going to happen. I promise.

[drops her hands to her lap] Sorry, sir. Just... being paranoid, I guess.

[scoots forward in her chair] So um, what's next?

Next, you turn the key and go. *Checks to see if they're ok for departure which they are, and explains shuttle ignitions in too much detail before taking off*

[tries to take all this in and wonders if she should have brought her PADD to write it all down]

Ok, so... what do all the numbers on the screen represent?

*points to one* Speed, *points to another* fuel level, *points to a third* height.

[sweetinaskirt]

Oh, I see. The fuel's easy to remember since it has that little status bar thing under it. Hmm, speed and height... [tries to memorize their placement on the screen in her mind]

And how fast should you typically go? [leans forward a bit, finally starting to relax]

Depends on the situation. In this case, impulse is good. *pauses* If you're running from something, as fast as possible.

[giggles and quickly covers her mouth until she collects herself, then clears her throat] Yes, sir. Hopefully that won't happen though.

Hopefully not, but this is Starfleet and you are serving with Jim Kirk.

Are you saying that other Starships don't find themselves in quite as many jams as we do?

*nods* Exactly.

Huh. It'd probably be smart to ask for a transfer, but I love the Enterprise too much.
