I never really enjoyed high school.

Me either. Four years of sitting quietly in the back, hoping I could make friends, but terrified of talking to people. I'm glad it's over.

It was about the same for me. They all thought I was a bit off, that's all.

How come? [smiles] Did you march to the beat of your own drum?

Sort of.

(chuckles softly) I enjoyed classes.

So did I. Which subjects were your favorites?

Hmm. I liked biology a lot, and English! I was bad at memorizing for history and German.

[wrinkles nose] I hated biology. Not so much the learning, but there was an odd number of students so I never had a partner for the labs.

History was my favorite though! Probably because my dad was a history teacher, so I grew up loving it. I loved English Lit too. It's why I majored in English in college.

I like history! I like hearing about it. I mean, I did well in class, still, but I feel like I never retained much of the information. I probably would have studied English, too, if I went.

I kind of regret it now. I mean, I couldn't turn my degree in English into a career, which was why I became a yeoman instead.

But college was definitely better than high school! I was able to talk to people a bit more. I even had a few friends.

Good for you! I'm sure it was easier to transition to, since no one really knows each other in college. I prefer being with Starfleet, though.

Exactly! And you know, I enjoy Starfleet more too. I think because it sort of has that college feel, with all of us living together, but it's more grown up because we have all these important responsibilities.

Exactly! It-- it's nice knowing you're doing something that, for sure, makes a difference.

Oh yes. [grins] It's important work, and I'm glad to be a part of it.
