my monday

We picked up Grandpa from the nursing home and took him to Grandma's Apartment for a pizza lunch yesterday.  He hadn't been on a "field trip" in awhile.  He asked to go out.  All was well.  He looked good.  He ate 2 large pieces of pizza and drank a can of root beer soda.  He stayed sitting/reclined in his special wheel chair.

He had a "little episode" after lunch.  I thought he was having a major stroke and was gonna die right then and there. He was speaking gibberish and has his eyes squinted shut.  Mom stood in front of him and called to him loudly and he looked right at her, but still didn't make any sense. The lights were on but nobody was home.  His color was very pale.  Mom called 911 (even though he has a DNR) and sent me to the front desk to warn them an ambulance was coming.  By the time I got back, he was awake and alert and making jokes.  He claims he was asleep but Mom could not wake him up.  He was acting appropriately  when the paramedics arrived.  They checkend him for stroke and decided to take him to the hospital just to make sure he was okay.

Mom went with him in the ambulance.  They said they were going to take him to the "big" hospital, but ended up taking him to the "little" one.  Dad, Grandma and I went all the way to the big one and had to come all the way back to the little one (which is about 3 blocks from Grandma's).  Naturally I didn't have my phone that day.

We then spent from 1:30 PM to 6:30 PM in the ER.   They did a CT scan of his head and it did not show a bleed or anything abnormal.  Lab work was drawn and it was okay so, he was discharged.  We returned him to nursing home and he was happy to be back in his own bed and in his own space.  It was a looooooooooooooooooooong day.

On a happier note, House started up again yesterday!  Yay!  And Prsident Obama was sworn in.  they let us watch it on TV at school.  It was pretty cool!
