I Just Call You Mine
Pairing: J2
Rating: PG
Summary: Everyone who knows Jensen and Jared think they’re both pretty amazing guys. Here's what they think about each other. Schmoop, utter schmoop, enough schmoop to induce diabetic comas, I'm serious.
Notes: Another songfic involving Jensen and Jared. "I Just Call You Mine" by Martina McBride.
Jensen thinks Jared is amazing.
Jared’s got everyone’s attention, telling the entire crew another epic joke. Jensen’s heard it already and gave it a green light with a cheery, “Good, not a sucky one this time, awesome man.” No one seems to notice it’s still raining and cold and fucking miserable as they wait for the storm to stop so they can get on with filming. The younger man’s arms are on full blast as he relays the story of the poor man who got a cheap, giant suit and everyone’s got a smile as Jared demonstrates the way the man had to walk to make sure the suit wouldn’t fall off.
Jensen feels a sudden urge to pinch himself just to prove this isn’t a dream. That the man able to make everyone so damn happy despite the weather is Jensen’s. Jensen’s best friend, his co-star, his roommate, his lover, and his goddamn everything. Jensen closes his eyes and just absorbs the utter joy radiating off of the whole crew: all because of Jared.
That’s the thing about Jared: he makes everyone around him better, happier. Jensen’s living proof positive of that fact. He had a good life before he met Jared, fuck that, a great life. He had close friends he could always count on, a fantastic family, and was getting paid to do what he loved.
But once he met Jared it was like…everything that was already wonderful became a shade more awesome. Jared seemed to have only faith in Jensen’s ability to do anything. Like when he surprised the older man at A Few Good Men: Jensen loved doing the show every night, but when Jared started that standing ovation as Jensen took his bow, he could have sworn he’d never feel so accomplished in his life.
Jared thinks Jensen is amazing.
Jared’s had a hard day, working on Sam’s addiction-headspace, and he’s dog-tired. He can barely muster up the energy to let his own dogs outside.
“Shower,” Jensen says, warm hand in the small of Jared’s back leading him towards the stairs.
That sounds like heaven, but Jared has a lot to do before he can wash away the day’s emotions and crash into bed.
Jensen seems to sense this and he moves his hand up to Jared’s shoulder. “I’ll take care of everything: get the dogs back in, check the locks, set the alarm. It’s fine.”
Jared nods and wanders up the stairs. Anyone seeing that exchange would probably never suspect how deep the connection between the two men goes. When they finally opened their eyes to what was always in front of them, not much changed. They didn’t suddenly start crawling all over each other, well, no more than they (okay, mostly Jared) always had. Even in private, there was a distinct lack of cuddling aside from the way one or the other who throw an affectionate arm across the back of the couch as they watched a sports game.
“Sorry,” Jared offers when he’s already under the covers before Jensen’s even changed out of his grimy clothes.
Jensen laughs. “Dude, don’t apologize. You do shit like this for me all the time. You had a hard day, everyone does. Hell, I’m surprised it took you this long to collapse. I’m not some hero for doing what any normal human would. However, if you used all the hot water, I promise to kick your ass in the morning when you’re feeling better,” with a grin, Jensen’s heading for a shower of his own.
Jared just watches his lover go and looks up at the ceiling when Jensen’s closed the door. “Thank you,” he says, sending his daily gratitude to God. Every night he reflects on some part of his life that’s been particularly good that day. Most days it’s how blessed he is to get paid to do a job he loves, but today it’s all simply because Jensen’s there in his world. “He’s great, really great. Hel-heck of a job you did making him. After all these years, I’m just so happy. I don’t think I have the best words, don’t think I ever will, but you know what I mean. He’s more than I deserve and thank you so much for him.”
