NaBloPoMo #29 - The New DC Frontier

Nov 29, 2008 23:42

Tonight Leyann and I watched a couple of the new DC animated movies the recently came out in the past year. Superman Doomsday and Justice League: The New Frontier

Superman Doomsday tells the animated version of The Death of Superman. Even I read that comic and bought it all the way back in '92. Obviously for time this move tells things differently and omits a lot of the side stories surrounding the death of Superman in the comics. But I must say that I really enjoyed the film. While Doomsday was only in it for half the movie (the other half dealing with the real heart of the story) it was brutal. The fight between him and Superman was vicious... it's like you could feel the shockwaves from their punches. I don't want to spoil it but their was this one part where Superman flipped over Doomsday while grabbing him by the upper jaw and sending him flying through a building. Lex was a crazy badass, Lois was awesome and the voice acting was well done. Adam Bladwin (Jayne himself) did the voice of Superman, Anne Heche was Lois Lane and James Marsters was Lex Luthor. Superb!

Justice League: The New Frontier is about the gathering of the League during the Golden Age of superheroes. Seeing this alternate take on all the DC heroes was pretty cool. I especially liked the focus on Hal Jordan (Green Lantern) and Barry Allen (The Flash), but all the characters got their moments. The building up of the villian (The Center) was creepy and get the mystery as to what he/it/?? was. I also liked the action sequences in this and I really liked the retro feel of it all. Also the voice acting was huge in this. Neil Patrick Harris as the Flash, David Boreanaz as Green Lantern, Lucy Lawless as Wonder Woman to name a few.

These movies are must watches in my opinion. So go get 'em!
