I'll be brief this week and apologize for being a bit late today, courtesy of a terrible, horrible, no good, very bad day. Which actually affects this week's challenge (which was originally just going to be a "use no dialogue" challenge, but we'll save that for another week). Instead, we're going to turn last week's challenge on its head and use lots of descriptions, metaphors, everything. In this case, the challenge is to pick a mood, an emotion that's prevalent in the story, and do everything you can in your prose to build that atmosphere. Choose your words carefully and in such a way that they evoke that same emotion. If you want to evoke calm, choose gentle, soft words. If you want to describe anger, think of words and images that antagonize, that build up anger and similar emotions.
Challenge: Manipulate your prose to convey an emotion and atmosphere for your story.
On a modly note, the results of the poll indicate that... we are all over the place. But, for the most part people are leaning toward AIM (which is super easy to get, if you don't have it, and can be used on sites like meebo, or if you have Trillian, or just want to download the program), and seem to like weekends for chats. I cannot personally host a chat this week (though, if one of you wants to do so, by all means! You all don't need my permission!), but shall we plan for one next Saturday afternoon/evening (perhaps around 6/7 pm EST/GMT -5), depending on what you all need? This is really hard to organize when there are willing participants halfway across the world that I would love to have participate, but I'm not sure how to finagle it. Suggestions? I am open to them!
