I was walking to the library today and I passed by some blue and purple orchids infront of the fence of the Govenor's Mansion. Naturally(LOL), the orchids made me think of roses which are the symbol for Thomasville, the City of Roses. And, thinking of Thomasville made me think of Thomasville High School, my Alma Mater, and thinking about my Alma Mater made me think of band camps and having to learn to memorize the Alma Mater as a freshman. How Ironic that we learned the music for the song before we even learned the words to the Alma Mater. Suffice to say, I was thinking about the lyrics too much. The opening line that says: " Where roses bloom 'neath stately pines our Alma Mater Stands..." Well, the song lies. We did have pine trees, but there were no roses blooming beneath them. Only styrofoam lunch trays and broken #2 mechanical pencils. On my way back from the library, fully loaded with books and catcash, I realized that the entire song is a metaphor. We the students were the roses in need of bloom, and our teachers were the Stately pines. Wow. Too much lyric analysis. Let me go practice piano.
