Notes: Because of trouble sleeping last night, I spent much of the day absolutely knackered. Too fatigued even to go out and get some dinner to eat, too tired to put on the next episode of Cowboy Bebop even. But I'm more than happy with this word count. I'll have to slow down a little bit, as I'm behind on an interview transcription (way behind), and there's a bit of a due date for that. I don't know how much I'd hoped to get done of the book before I got to it, but I think this is as good a point as any to press pause. This first draft isn't due for some time, and I'd forgotten that in this latest sustained burst. But I think the most prudent thing to do right now is catch up on some sleep. The morning commute will likely be spent working on the interview and getting that out of the way as swiftly as possible, so that I can return to this. I know the big thing that happens in the next chapter, and this'll give me some time to choreograph it, as it's the thing that leads precisely into Act III. Recalling my screenwriting training, this seems, emotionally, exactly where the bottom of Act II should be. It's rather lengthy, so I'm hoping Act III can be appropriately stretched, so that I don't run into the problems I had with the first draft of Book 1, which saw the final act more a series of cascading beats falling on top of each other rather than a steady march to the crescendo. We shall see!
