I haven't been sleeping well of late.
Part of this is, of course, due to the swift and steady diminishing of the prospect of a future for me and my generation, in economic as well as national terms. There's a bit of the apocalypse in that kind of thinking and it has me up at late researching the Great Depression and the Silent Generation and other sorts of nation-wide trends during that time and how America eventually rose out of that. Some startling parallels.
Another part of why I haven't been able to sleep well is that all these worries have sparked in me the idea of another book, different in conception than anything I've done before. It'll take time to put together of course as it's only coming to me piecemeal, I've no illusions that we'll have begun our upward ascent as a nation by the time I start writing this thing.
In other news, I'm reading Embassytown right now and China Mieville's vocabulary makes me feel like linguini. Seriously. Walking linguini.
