April 2nd

We got a pretty good early start to the day.  We got into the car for the drive to the Keukenhof.   We got to drive underneath the tarmac at the airport.  I love that part about Schiphol driving underneath a plane is so bizarre. It wasn’t bad but it got busy a few km out from the Keukenhof; lots of people visiting it on the weekend.  Got parked and through the gate.

Since we didn’t have a plan we just wandered around.  It is early in the season so it was mostly daffodils, hyacinth, and crocuses in flower.  Most of the tulips were still just budding.  There was a lovely pond with swans and a portion of the pond had they platform lily pads that Dan took Alex and Ben on.  They were so proud that they got to go on them.

After that we got a quick snack of ice cream in waffle cones. The ice cream didn’t stop our hunger so we went to the cafeteria. We stopped for some sandwiches and fries to tide us over.  The kids found a playground and enjoyed that.  There was an awesome tire swing that they all fit on.  I got them spinning pretty well.  We also got to go up in a working windmill.  Though you couldn’t go up as high since the gears were working.  There was a platform in the middle and you could feel the great breeze that it was creating.

Right next to the windmill was a fresh strop wafle stand so we got a couple of those since they are filled with awesome.  The warm day was getting to us so we were going to take the long way through the garden back to the garden.  First stop was the animals.  There was sheep, a calf, a couple turkeys, a chicken, a duck, and 2 little noisy pigs.  Of course the pigs were a hit with the kids.

After that we took the other way around the pond with swans and looped back to the main entrance.  The drive home way uneventful just wanted to get home after a hot day.  We enjoyed some sandwiches for supper and a cool breeze which sitting outside watching the kids play.
