So, I finally talked to Mom tonight

Been trying to get through for a couple of weeks, but she's either been on the phone, or not home to answer it.

Almost wish I hadn't.

First off, and least worrisome (by comparison, anyway): Sis is on medical leave from work for a couple of weeks. Mom says she went in to the doctor, and came out with two bleeding ulcers and colonitis. The doctor said she's to stay away from work and stress for a while. The doctor also told her she ought to think about changing jobs, but with her putz not working at the moment.....yeah.

Second: Grandma's not doing well. Mostly depression, mostly because of one of my uncles. Remember that whole bankruptcy and lost part of the farm thing? It's reared it's ugly head again. I guess Unclde #2 hasn't paid the taxes on the 5 acres that are still in his name, for FIVE YEARS. Thus, the Tax Man cometh. To the tune of, if the taxes weren't paid by the end of busines today, the land goes up for auction. Uncle #1 has tried to communicate with Uncle #2 about it, and not gotten any response, so Uncle #1 plans to go tot he auction and buy the land. And predictably, Grandma's all worked up about it. Grandma thinks that it's all Uncles #2's wife (M). Grandma thnks that M was solely responsible for their bankrupcy, and the Uncle #2 didn't know about the troubles until the law came knocking on their door.

Anyway, the end result of all this is that Mom and Uncle #1 plan to pressure Grandma into selling the rest of the farm (which Uncle #2 had said he was going to buy, but he's never come up with any money), probably to the cousin who lives next door. Grandma could really use the money for bills and her medical stuff, and if Grandma wants to tell Uncle #2 that Mom and #1 forced her into that decision, that's fine. Mom says the family can't get that much more fractured. (She's wrong, but I"m not going to tell her that yet.)
