A friend on Gmail, speaking about jump-rope rhymes: "I'll be excited to get any new and better rhymes going - everything they know is sooooo hetrosexist."

I hadn't ever thought of it like that, and yet...as my friend cites:

"Cinderella dressed in yellow went up stairs to kiss a fellow"
and again,
"ice cream, ice cream a cherry on top, how many boy friends do you got"

Theoretically, any proposition can be understood. That's the point of theory. On the other hand, the reality of the details is always catching me by surprise.
As Bordieu reminds us, we must be sure to beware of the fact that our theories don't necessarily bear any relationship to reality.
