Well, I loved it...

as much as you can love anything that kicks you in the gut every 75 pages.  John was anxious for me to finish so I would stop boo-hooing every half-hour.  Seriously, I started with Hedwig (I can't handle pet death), accelerated to shaking shoulders with Dobby (horrible combination of pet-like and family-like death), and went to ( Read more... )

Woot! I managed a read free of spoilers, too. (finally) *hight five, Borat style* And I think you're dead on - I too feel rather privileged to have started the series when I did so I could experience all the anticipation. It wouldn't have been the same if I could have just ripped through the books all at once.

Ditto the spoiler-free reading, which was SO important to me for this book especially.

I also loved all the throwbacks to previous books. With each new book that has come out, it has made me realize that she really DID have the entire series planned out ahead of time. When, 10 years later (in publication at least), she is pulling things from PS/SS to put in this book...yes. Brilliant writing.

A friend and I were just talking about that. This story was all mapped out. I am sure of it. Everything was linked back to the other books so perfectly. Little things, that we didn't give much thought to when we first read it were given meaning in this one. I absolutely loved this story of hers, and am so glad she spanned it over seven books. The writing in this book also, I thought, was her best.
