A couple of weeks ago, maybe 3, I got a phone call from the student loan folks, all chipper... We need your new address, they said!  NO problem, I say.  I want to pay my loans on time and get all my paperwork done efficiently and all that, as that is my new financial policy.  You don't have to panic if ( Read more... )

Sallie Mae is where my loans were consolidated from grad and undergrad and I just want to say that they are run by Satan Himself. I mean that seriously...and am very delinquent on my loan as I have had two years of financial horror and they would not give me another forebearance. Now, starting this month on the 17th, I must pay them 460.00 a month for the next 25 years. And, since I consolidated 7 years ago, they won't let me reconsolidate for that nice LOW INTEREST rate everyone gets nowadays.

I'm typically not suicidal, but a hole in the head sounds good to me right now. Or perhaps I should join you in your coma.

If I hadn't gone to grad school, my loans were UNDER 5,000! As it is I borrowed 40,000 to pay for grad school. I wish to hell I hadn't. I even worked as a grad assistant and still had to take out that much.

Please tell me you are exaggerating. Please.

All thoughts of going back to school at any point hae now been permanently vacated from my brain.

Bugger me upside down. *is floored*

No further education for me thank you very much. What's the point îf you can't earn enough to pay the debt back before you die? And they wonder why Americans are becoming stupider. They can't afford the damned education in the first place.

Honestly, I'm not even convinced college makes one smarter. I mean, take me for example. What do I really LOVE to do? Cakes (for the most part). I could have settled on a pastry chef training and probably make three to four times what I'm making now, and that wouldn't have been a degree...yet it would have meant doing what I love and getting paid for it. That would have been the "smart" route ( ... )

Yeah, you got that right. They all told us "just go to college and you'll get a nice cushy job and earn heaps of money and have a great life". I'd like to know where that all went. I mean, not that I'm sorry I got an education, it's just that the education itself did nothing for me. This is why I'm doubly glad that I never had to take out a loan to go. Having said that, I have NO IDEA how my father put two kids through university. No clue. He was an air traffic controller. He must have secretly been working for the mafia or something on the side. ATCs don't earn that much. Granted, he did own about 4 businesses on the side, but still.

And I ask you, how are you supposed to save any money for your kids to go to college with bills like that? You'd better hope they prefer vocational school.

Gad. I'm still floored.
