Ugh!!!

I'm very, very confused. Last night I went to my parents house with Thomas. I had a bad feeling about the night; I don't know why. I love my parents, but the night had an ominous aura about it. So after dinner, (which was amazing btw), my parents ended up talking to us for about two hours about businesses and the hot dog stand. My dad remained ( Read more... )

You and I seem to be in about the same position right now. I'm in a job that has nothing to do with any of my talents because I need to pay the bills. I haven't been able to find anything that would utilize my degree or anything I've ever studied or enjoyed. I would desperately love to start my own business, because I also hate working for other people. The longer I'm employed, the more I know this. Something creative, something no one else can offer but me. Something rewarding. That's the key I'm missing right now. What I'm doing now is anything but rewarding.

I may have a bit of information that's a little more helpful than commiserating, though. I've been subscribed to this E-letter called The Golden Thread from AWAIonline.com for a while now. It's all about tips and tricks and resources for starting your own copywriting (or copywriting-related) business. It's pretty cheesy and direct-maily in and of itself, but there is a lot of valuable info. I'd take a look if you're still at all interested in pursuing copywriting. If my creative energies were not in this funk and if my time was not eaten up by a job, I'd probably pursue it, too.

Yeah that's pretty much how I feel. Right now Thomas is making enough for us to live on, and a little bit of my paycheck goes toward health insurance. I'm considering really going out there and finding what I want to do, even if it's not going to pay much, if anything while we're in this place where we're OK with money and don't have kids. Maybe the idea is to find a job or internship in the field I want to start my business in, and get some really down and dirty experience.

I signed up for the Golden Thread--thanks!
