Reflections on my homestay

May 28, 2007 17:54

Waiting for dinner, doing a little more relaxed post. So I've come to terms with the fact that some of my data just won't get in the first submission. But to summarize the past week:

For the past two weeks I've stayed with a Costa Rican family and I've never felt more welcome. The couple had three kids, 13, 10, and 1, and it was such a fun time. I  improved my Spanish a bit, and taught the son how to play frisbee. The mom also cooked amazing food, I loved her gallo pinto, fried plaintains, and homemade tortillas. It really surprised me how much they welcomed me, a stranger, into their home. The homestay is definitely not an experience I would not have missed for the world, and I feel more a part of Costa Rica afterwards. I've noticed many people here in Monteverde are just really friendly. Maybe its the small town atmosphere I've never had, but people always say hi, well "hola", when walking past on the street, and I've had multiple conversations with strangers.

Enough reflections...grilled cheese sandwiches and tomato soup time!!

For all my SCAdian friends on lj hope you had an amazing time at war!
