Marvin McFadden sat quietly on the bench at the Rivercourt. He felt bad about what had happened at school earlier in the week. His once best friend, Jimmy Edwards gone. Rachel's words burned in his brain. 700 days.
Mouth remembered how years before, he and Jimmy had sat together watching as the other guys played basketball. Just take it all back. He had to face it. Jimmy killed himself. He would never come back. Tears started falling from his eyes. He self-consciously wiped them away.
"Are you crying Mouth?" He heard a familiar voice say behind him. He turned and he saw Jimmy.
"Jimmy? What? You're not supposed to be here." Mouth was confused by the appearance of Jimmy. How could he be there? He had died, right? Had it all been a dream?
"Yeah, I know, I'm grounded but, I sneaked out. The rest of the guys are gonna be here soon, it's gonna be a great game!" Jimmy said excited as he sat next to Mouth. Mouth decided that the hostage situation had all been a dream, a nightmare. He wanted to make things right with Jimmy.
"Jim, I'm sorry we had a falling out, I had this dream, it was crazy. I lost you man, your my best friend, you were, let's be friends again, please?" Mouth spoke quickly and Jimmy looked at him and smiled.
"It's okay Mouth" He gave his friend a manly side hug. "It was just a dream."
"Hey ladies!" Skillz shouted from across the court. Lucas and the rest of the guys were behind him. "What's with the hug?"
"Just being there for each other" Mouth replied. Lucas smiled and gave Skillz a big hug. Skillz looked at Lucas and pushed him away.
"Let's just play some ball, okay?" They all agreed. They played two-on-two, Skilllz and Junk* vs. Lucas and Fergie. Jimmy and Mouth announced from the sidelines.
It was the best Mouth had felt in a while. They played, laughed and had fun.
"Okay Mouth, it's time" Jimmy said as it started to rain. Mouth looked at Jimmy. Time? He looked back to the court, the rest of the guys were gone.
"What? Where are the guys? Time for what?" He was confused, he turned to Jimmy. "Time for what?"
"Time to wake up" Jimmy replied. Mouth shook his head. He couldn't believe it. He didn't understand. He ran onto the court. Wake up?
"I am awake!" He shouted. The rain fell on his face. He looked to the bench, Jimmy was gone. "I am" Mouth whispered. He fell to the floor, tears falling everywhere even through his closed eyes. He his eyes, the court was gone. He was at home, on his floor. It was all a dream. He had just woken up. He felt guilty, he could wake up, but Jimmy couldn't.
