Not Your Typical School Day

Peyton smiled as saw Brooke Davis grinning at her from across the quad. The pretty brunette who had been her best friend forever came happily skipping over to her. The bright morning sunshine beamed down on the two girls as they headed inside Tree Hill High School for another day of classes. They stopped at Brooke's locker first. As she got her things for their first period English class, they talked about Tree Hill's recent developments. AKA Haley and Nathan finally moving back in together and Jake's sudden reappearance in town.

As they walked down the hallway toward Peyton's locker, the blonde was a little apprehensive to talk about her former boyfriend. After all, Brooke still didn't know she was with Lucas, so she had happily assumed that Jake and her best friend would pick up right where they left off. Just as Jake had. They rounded the corner as Peyton decided that she couldn't dodge the subject forever. She'd have to tell Brooke about Lucas. "Hey Brooke..." She said, moving to push open the double glass doors that led into the hallway where her locker stood. Brooke, still smiling, turned her head expectantly to the other girl, just as Peyton saw Luke's friend...Jimmy...pull a gun out of his sweatshirt. Chills racing down her spine she grabbed Brooke's jacket sleeve and threw her best friend to the floor.

The gunshot cracked through the hallway that was soon filled with sounds of screaming and terror. Peyton felt a painful heat rush through her leg and she let out a cry of anguish as it threw her back against the lockers. She saw Brooke, looking terrified, scramble up off the floor and join the crowds rushing toward the exit. She tried to call out to her best friend, but there was no way anyone would be able to hear her over the chaos in the hallway. She tried to stand and found she couldn't. Someone tripped over her leg in their rush to escape, bringing tears to her eyes. She had to move.

No longer able to see Brooke, Peyton dragged herself backwards through the hallway until she felt a solid wooden presence at her back. The library. Biting her lip to keep from screaming at the pain, she heaved herself backwards and the library doors eased open. Letting out a small moan she crawled into the library and collapsed in one of the rows of books.

There in the library, alone and scared, she cried.
