Chocolates played a significant part in my courtship, most memorably the very fine range from the folks at Bon Bon in Sydney (this was while the True Love was still working out whether he'd scare me off if he moved cities to be with me). When we're up here I like to make a nostalgic trip to Bon Bon's pocket handkerchief of a shop in the QV Building (such a very pretty piece of architecture in its own right) - the shop itself is literally just deep enough for two women to stand behind the counter and the counter itself exists merely to anchor three display cases filled to the brim with ... heaven.
I admire, and contemplate, and point, and gasp (pistachio marzipan! oh!), and the very nice lady smiles and gathers them all in for me. We both pause to enjoy the sight...
...and then she wraps them up for me in my choice of red tissue paper and
red ribbon.
That little box keeps me happy for days.
