Socks and Books!

I still want to make knit monster thingies, but thinking my monthly knitting group meets tonight and having nothing on my needles, I decided last night to cast on some socks. I realized before I actually cast on that my knitting group really meets next Tuesday, but decided to go ahead with the socks anyway. This is only my second pair of socks and the first ones I did were two years ago! It was time to get back on the sock train.

I'm doing the Columbine Peak pattern from Cat Bordhi's 'Socks Soar on Two Circular Needles'. I decided to go ahead and cast on both socks, so I'm doing two at once on two circular, size 1 needles. The yarn is Knit Picks EssentialSolid in Fawn (a light brown color). I cast on and finished one whole round last night. Yay!

I also rediscovered the joy of reading last year, mostly thanks to the Los Angeles Public Library and their wonderful online catalog. I have a branch that is a 5-10 minute walk from my house and using the online catalog, which I can access from any computer that has internet, I can reserve books and have them shipped to this branch for pick-up! Woo Hoo!

So, I read a lot last year and realized I really should have been keeping track somewhere. I'm not going to go back, but from now on, I'm keeping a list of the books I'm reading/have read. Here goes!

Book: The Spirit Ring
Author: Lois McMaster Bujold
Started: 12/28/08 (Sunday)
Finished: ?
Thoughts: I'm four chapters in and am enjoying it so far. Two POV characters - one female and one male. I mainlined Bujold's stuff over the last few months and enjoyed it all. She writes interesting characters and even though the majority of her books are from a male POV, her women all rock.
