Two Updates -- Ankle and Manuscript

Two Updates

I returned from the doctor about two hours ago. The news is good, can you believe it !?!?  According to the new X-rays, the two halves of the broken bone haven't shifted any further apart than they were two weeks ago. This time, the doctor spied a small amount of healing taking place. So, what does this mean? Why, no metal plate for me, kiddos! (I'm so relieved!)

As far as "lifestyle" is concerned, I keep on doing what I've been doing (ex. wearing the boot, staying off my feet, avoiding the stairs), but my next visit to the doctor isn't until Feb 10. Thank you all for your prayers, good vibes, best wishes and friendly thoughts on my behalf. I feel very blessed by today's news.

Re the Gryphon and Basilisk manuscript, I've now translated all poorly scanned pages and transcribed all longhand chapters. With all of that firmly in WORD files, the series currently stands at 44 (l-o-n-g) chapters and counting. Or to put it another way, G&B currently consists of about 390,000 words. It's beginning to look a lot like  C/h/r/i/s/t/m/a/s  a four volume story.

Technically, I could pretend to you that I have "G&B Chapter 45" written, but that would be fibbing. I do have a Chapter 45 file though. Stored within it are about eight to ten scenes or scene fragments, which are long enough taken together to equal a chapter of narrative. Unfortunately, they're very rough and many of the scenes have nothing to do with events or characters in the other scenes. Some fragments may duplicate other fragments. It's just a pretend Chapter 45, for filing purposes. The first two things I need to do with this file are: eliminate any duplicates, and try to put the fragments in chronological order. Then, maybe, I can extract a skeleton but real Chapter 45 from it.

Once I had finished going through all my miscellaneous G&B computer files and extracting all those scene fragments, I was left with a pile of "G&B Notes". These consist of partial outlines, small character sketches, ideas for future developments and, mainly, rhetorical questions to myself about what should happen next. There are lots of duplicates in this "Notes" file, too. Once I've pared down "G&B Notes", it may run 2000 - 3000 words of actually useful stuph.

I've glanced through the Notes mess, in the process of cutting and pasting from its disparate sources. At the moment, I don't see a magic bullet answer to how G&B should end. (For anyone coming into this new, it's not that I don't have an ending for G&B--I actually have too many options built into the narrative and I can't decide which option combination I should go with.)

For the next couple of days, I'll probably read through both "G&B Chap 45" and "G&B Notes" until I'm familiar with their contents. Then I'll remove the duplicates from them and place the core elements in chronological order. After that? Praying for inspiration comes to mind. If that doesn't fly, then it's back to Chapter 1 and some serious revision. (There's a bunch of "As you know, Bob" back-story that needs to be jettisoned.)

And there you are! Thanks for reading!
