tonight mr tree and i ventured out to procure foodstuffs. i ordered a dish that was described as having three primary ingredients: chicken, avocado, and zucchini. what i received was chicken, avocado, broccoli and carrots.
apparently there were no zucchini to be had. not even for ready money.
the owner (i think) apologised. but then i said that i couldn't eat the broccoli and carrots because i am allergic to them. and she said, "really?" because i guess a lot of people claim to be allergic to things for the lulz? and, okay, technically i am not allergic to broccoli; i am actually hypersensitive to a naturally occurring chemical of which broccoli contains a lot and this sensitivity wreaks havoc in my digestive tract, thus causing problems for nutrient absorption and my immune system generally. there is also inflammation and other unpleasantness. but for most people "allergic" will do. because it is difficult to explain the other thing in fewer than ten words in a noisy restaurant.
so i ended up with (mushy) green beans. which was fine because i can eat green beans as long as they're thoroughly cooked. but i was amused because despite having just been told that i'm allergic to two vegetables she didn't actually ask me if i could eat the beans. maybe that was the only other vegetable they had.
also, the avocado was brown. and i don't mean the "help, i've been exposed to the air for thirty seconds!" brown that avocados are wont to display. this was the half way through the flesh, tastes disgusting, oh actually it's gone off brown.
not that i can eat avocados anyway.
and i didn't think to take an anti-histamine before we went out, and i forgot to take them with me, so i am being punished mightily by my oesophagus. my counterattack will be to eat ice cream (intestines screaming: no, you can't eat that either! me: smothering them with a pillow) and watch some hart to hart. yes i spent $20 on season 1 of hart to hart on itunes. I REGRET NOTHING.
