the traditional gift for a tenth wedding anniversary is tin. what can you buy made of tin these days?
when mr tree and i got married we had no money. for our engagement present, my gran bought our wedding rings. they were plain silver bands (i don't like gold) that cost a whopping $40 each. we don't even wear them anymore -- not because there's anything wrong with them; we just fell out of the habit.
with our tenth anniversary coming up (how is this possible? IDEK) i've been thinking maybe we could get new rings. apparently the modern gift for ten is diamonds. i can't remember ever liking diamonds. even as a little girl i preferred coloured stones, or things like coral. i did buy some very plain cufflinks for mr tree one year that have little diamond chips in them, which look quite stylish, and i've seen a few wedding bands in a similar vein: plain silver/titanium etc. with small inlaid diamonds. i could go for something like that. they are generally marked as being "for men" but whatever.
this is all supposing that mr tree is in favour. since i only came up with the idea this morning, he is not yet aware of my devious plans. actually, that could be said about many things.
