so for a while i was worried that i was falling out of love with fiona apple because her new album was proving garrisoned and inaccessible. and that made me sad. i mean, who else do you know uses words like 'stentorian' and 'moribund' in a song? but then i found a way in through the back door (literally: hot knife is the last song) and now i'm learning my way around. this is daredevil.

I guess
I just
must
be a daredevil
I don't feel anything until I smash it up
I'm caught on the cold
caught on the hot
--not so with the warmer lot
and all I want's a confidante to
help me laugh it off
and don't let me
ruin me
I may need a chaperone
Say I'm an airplane
and the gashes I got from my heart-break
make the slots and the flaps upon my wing
and I use them to give me lift
Hip-hip, for the lift
Hip-hip, for the drag
I want them all in my bag
Oh, give me anything,
and I'll turn it into a gift
But don't let me
Ruin me
I may need a chaperone
Seek me out, Look at, look at, look at, look at me
I'm all the fishes in the sea
Wake me up -- gimme, gimme, gimme what you
got in your mind in the middle of the night
And maybe you'll let me
Look out for you
protect what I found in you
and never let it starve
And then that way, you'll let me stay
skirting the skirt, like I want to
And I will try hard to hold on
to you with open arms
But don't let me
ruin me
I may need a chaperone
i also
read an article i liked about her. we are the same age. that's less weird to me than it used to be. i bought her first album before i even heard any of her songs. i was in target and there she was looking out from the cover with those eyes and i liked her name and i liked the album title and so i bought it. we were nineteen then. apparently only people over 30 buy CDs now. well back then i used to buy cassettes.
