Hello everyone. This is my new doggy Rilo. Everyone say Hi to Rilo. He's a two year old Schipperke mix. Mixed with what we don't really know, but with his coloring we think maybe beagle or German Shepard. He's probably the friendliest dog I have ever met. My family met him at the Humane society when they went to visit on Friday. They saw him and had to put an application in for adoption right away. There was another family that wanted to take him home as well, but for some reason it wouldn't work out. So I went with my family saturday to go meet him. And I just fell in love with him right away. He is so sweet and loving and absolutely LOOOVES meeting new people. He'll let you know right away just how much he likes you by jumping up on you and giving you a BIIIG kiss. His story is kind of sad. He was found as a stray and moved from shelter to shelter before ending up at the Elmbrook humane society. The fact that he knows how to fetch and drop the toy in front of you when he brings it back and walks really nice on a leash makes us think he had a family somewhere before and he may have gotten lost or his family may not have been able to keep him.
I admit that there has been kind of a hole in my life since my dog max died in January of '08. Rilo reminds me of Max when he was young in a few ways. But I know that no dog will ever be able to replace Max and that Rilo is very different. But I am a dog person even though they make me a little sneezy. Rilo has been thriving already in his new home and got to meet the final memeber of the family today. Brendan is a little afraid of him because he hasn't really been around a dog since he was a few months old. Most likely he doesn't remember Max. Rilo loves him...and constantly wants to kiss him, but since brendan is much closer to his level than the rest of us are, he gets knocked over easily.. But Brendan is greatly amused by picking up Rilos toys and throwing them and seeing him run after them. this is also a source of great amusement for Rilo.
Having Rilo has been a great help to me given my current situation. I mean how can you continue to be sad when a dog looks at you with those big puppy eyes? And how can you NOT smile when they lick your face? If you want to come by and meet him let me know. Rilo loves meeting new friends.
