The IQ of a Hood Rat
First off I believe a definenition of Hood Rat is in order. I'm not talking about the skanks that go to import car shows and races looking to hook up with the hot shot of the group. In my situation a Hood Rat is something a little different. In the town that I live in there's a district of streets all named after different kind of trees. There's Cherrywood, Maplewood, Birchwood and many others all within in a three mile radious. I live on W. Maplewood st. in an apartment complex called the Junction. It's ghetto to say the least, most of my neighbors are drug users and heavy alcoholics but in the same remain good people lost in addiction. My neighborhood became the "Wood Hood" an apropriate nickname if you look at it's inhabitants and those of us die hard lovers of this place donned the name the "Hood Rats".
I work four to five days a week in a smaller town half an hour north of my home which puts me out of the hood roughly fourty hours a week. In this time I collect and cool off from the normal daily drama caused by neighbors and or my room mates. I don't like to be in the mix of crap that is generated by gossip and rumors so I mostly stay to myself but I still concider myself a genuine Hood Rat.
When you move into the Hood you expect it to be a transitional living situation. Something that you do to waste time before finding the real deal(a more suitable apartment or house.) The longer you stay the harder it is to leave, as if this place sucks away at your soul until you could never leave no matter the pain that this place is causing. Once stuck here you're constently lost in a maze of who's sleeping with who, whether she cutting herself, fucked up all of the time, wishing you could get out.
I don't do drugs. I drink on occation but spend most of my time watching those who surround me pop and smoke their lives away. The deterieration of a society is depressing and lonely to experience, however partaking in this bounty would be far more distressful.
