A Proper Mod Post

Jul 22, 2009 12:46

Hello, my lovelies! This is a proper mod post, and it's all to do with fic posting rules, so this is something I'd like all of you to have a read of please :)

I have just been talking to miss_daae, who is the current compiler of rh_press - a wonderful resource with regular posts giving links to news, stories, images and discussions from a number of different Robin Hood communities. An awful lot of work goes into all that compiling, and there's a very small thing that we over here on treatmuchright can do to help!

A New Fic Posting Rule

On rh_press, every story linked is given a little summary. In some other communities, people regularly post a one-line summary of their story in the header at the top - and this makes it easy for the rh_press editors to copy and paste something in their posts. When there's no summary, they have to go looking for something to use as a summary, which means extra work for them. So...

What I'd like you to do is include a one-line summary of your story in your header.

So, let's say you've written a story in which Much has to save Robin from the Sheriff's Pit of Fiery Doom. You get to writing your header for posting it. Think of the summary as a movie tagline kind of thing. You might write...

Only Much can save Robin from the Sheriff's Pit of Fiery Doom.

Or maybe...

Robin is roasting in the Sheriff's Pit of Fiery Doom - but can Much rescue him in time?

That kind of thing :) Remember that in rh_press a whole list of stories from different communities is given, so a reader will be looking for a juicy snippet that tells them whether this is a story for them or not.

Is this OK with everyone? I'd really appreciate it, and I know miss_daae would too, if you'd take this on board when posting your stories - treatmuchright is one of the most prolific Robin Hood writing communities, thanks to the efforts of all you wonderful people. I can't tell you how proud I am to be your mod :)

If you have any questions, objections or suggestions, you can leave a comment here, or send me a message any time.

I'll now go and make a little change to the user info to incorporate this - it comes under Posting Rule number 5[1].

And as ever, don't forget - Treat Much Right!

[1] Posting Ruler number 5 now reads:

5) Pieces of fiction are very welcome, and I'm very proud that the lovely members of this community produce so many high-quality stories. If posting a story, please use a header of the following type:

Title: {your title}
Author: {you}
Rating: {use the British cinema rating, e.g. PG or 15}
Summary: {a one-line summary of your story - very helpful to the people compiling rh_press}
Notes: {this is optional - if there's anything you want to explain about your story, this is the place}
Warnings: {optional again - you may want to warn of the presence of explicit sex, swearing, etc)
Disclaimer: {make clear that you don't actually own the characters!}

I'm not going to complain a lot if you deviate from these guidelines a bit, but please do remember to include header and to give the rating/summary/disclaimer information for your readers.
