Oh, so very beautiful. I'm dabbing at my eyes.

This was the single most important time in their lives for Much to be a friend to his master, and the fear of missing it, of not being near when he was most needed, was a constant burn in the back of his mind. At night, he would not sleep until he knew Robin was asleep, too. He stared at him in the starry dark, curled up as close to him as Robin would allow, and waited.

This just sums Much up for me completely. You've caught his devotion to Robin so well.

Great job.

Thank you. This story was kind of important to me, since I just went through a similar situation - putting it on paper, and seeing it through Much's eyes, was very cathartic. I've never been able to fully empathize with Much until now. I respect his character even more than I did before.

Thanks again for reviewing. I'm glad you liked it. :)

I really like the physicality in this. There's a wonderful awareness that Much has of Robin's breathing and his small movements and expressions. Then the way their contact deepens from Much's hand on his back, to Robin's grip on his shoulder, until Much is holding him, and finally Robin squeezes his hand. A nice contrast with Much's hesitancy in the beginning to his closeness at the end. It's all so beautiful.

I also love the way you've brought Robin quite naturally to this point, by having Much make him laugh, and once he allows that himself that emotion he can't prevent himself from giving in to all the rest of it.

In my experience, one extreme begets another - after you've been crying hard, you laugh harder; and when you've been laughing through grief, it eventually overturns into deeper sadness. Plus, Much was forever saying the wrong thing, so I wanted him to say it on purpose, knowing that Robin would understand what he was trying to do and bring him to the point he needed to be at.

Thanks for reading and for leaving such wonderful feedback. :)

Very wonderful.
You captured the emotion from both really well.
I have to say this is probably one, if not the best story about the two's interaction with robin's grief I've read. Everything just flows seamlessly

Oh, this is excellent. A perfect account of the grief Robin would be feeling (the descriptions of his voice when he was crying were fantastic) and Much's patient desperation in trying to help him - I think he knew exactly what to do, only he didn't know it!
Really touching and wonderfully written, well done xx

Ah, "patient desperation" - a very apt description of what people feel in this kind of situation. Thank you very much for reading and reviewing. :)
